Restart Your SQE Preparations
If you’ve taken a break from studying and now feel unsure of how to restart your SQE preparations, you’re not alone.
Many aspiring solicitors experience this, and the good news is, it’s possible to restart without losing momentum.
The first step is accepting the pause without guilt. Breaks happen due to work, life, or burnout. Dwelling on “lost time” only adds pressure. Instead, reframe this as a chance to restart with fresh energy.
Next, reassess your plan. Don’t jump straight into advanced topics. Begin with a light review of core areas. Skim your notes or summaries to jog your memory. This refresh builds confidence and reminds you that you know more than you think.
More importantly get back into the grove of taking practice questions. Closed book and in a time environment.
Then, set small, clear goals. For example, one hour a day, or one subject per week. Small wins rebuild momentum faster than overwhelming marathons of study.
Ideally, mix the subjects together. The SQE will present questions with the topics mixed. You do not want to be thrown off.
Structure matters too. Create a timetable that fits your lifestyle now, not the one you had months ago.
Finally, add accountability. Join a study group, connect with other SQE candidates. Having others on the journey makes it easier to stay consistent.
✅ Remember: Restarting isn’t about making up for lost time, it’s about building forward from today. One focused hour now is better than waiting for the “perfect” time to begin.
