SQE 1 Booking Window

SQE 1 booking window

If you are planning to sit SQE 1, it is important to understand the SQE 1 booking window timelines and cancellation rules set out by the SRA. These details can have real financial consequences if your plans change after you secure a seat.

SQE 1 Booking Window

The SRA typically offers SQE 1 twice per year. In January and July. The SRA has not yet announced the SQE 1 booking window for July 2026.

The SRA publishes assessment dates well in advance, and candidates must complete booking within a defined window. Seats are limited and generally allocated on a first come, first served basis.

One important rule to remember is that the SQE 1 booking window normally closes around five weeks before the start of the assessment window. If you miss this deadline, you will need to wait until the next sitting to register.

Because demand can be high, it is usually advisable to complete the booking process as soon as the SQE 1 booking window opens. Giving you the best chance of getting the test center location and dates within the testing period of your choice.

However, what happens if you later decide you no longer want to sit during the sitting?

In summary, the longer you leave it to cancel you potentially can lose the entire fee.

14 day cooling off period

After you book SQE 1 and receive confirmation, you benefit from a 14-day cooling-off period. During this period, you can cancel your booking and receive a full refund of your exam fee.

SQE 1 Booking Window cancellation timelines

  • More than four weeks prior to the first day of SQE 1 assessment window, a cancellation charge equal to 25% of the assessment fee applies.
  • More than 96 hours prior to the scheduled assessment start time, a cancellation charge equal to 75% of the assessment fee applies.
  • At or less than 96 hours prior to the scheduled assessment start time or in the event of non attendance, a cancellation charge equal to the assessment fee will apply.

Plan Carefully Before Booking

These rules highlight why candidates need to think carefully before securing a seat. While the cooling off period offers flexibility, cancellation becomes increasingly costly as the exam approaches.

For anyone preparing for SQE 1, understanding these timelines is an important part of planning your study schedule and managing the financial risk associated with booking the exam.
