SQE 1 results – next steps
If you’ve recently received your SQE 1 results here are some next steps to consider. In either case, please realize you are taking one of the most difficult exams in the legal space. Taking the SQE is a huge commitment of your time and energy. You should feel proud to get to this point.
Take some time for yourself, the mental drain of taking SQE 1 and waiting for the results is a difficult period. Do something fun, spend some time with friends and family, or take a few days for yourself to get your energy and mental capacity ready for the next steps.
SQE 1 Results – next steps
You Passed
If you passed both FLK 1 and FLK 2, huge congratulations. You are one step closer to qualifying as a solicitor. Your next stop is SQE 2. I’ve briefly described SQE 2 in this post.

Didn’t get the result this time
It’s ok. Take some time and review your results:
- Your results from the SRA will list:
- Pass mark
- Your mark
- Correct answers (x/180)
- Underneath will have the SQE 1 full breakdown of marks for FLK 1 and FLK 2
- Review the practice areas and the scores
- The lowest scores are the practice areas you should consider studying again first. Focus on strengthening your weaker areas. Do not lose the skills you already have in the strongest practice areas
- It is possible to pass one FLK and not the other. If this is the case great job on passing one. You only have to study for the one you did not pass
Use this to work backwards from when you want to resit. SQE 1 sittings are (at the time of writing) in January and July of each year per SRA.
Don’t study alone
(unless that is how you study best)
Studying for SQE 1 can be lonely. Some people like studying alone and that is ok. Find what works for you. Find your support system. There are so many groups, other students studying for the SQE, find a resource that suits your needs better.
