SQE Exam day disruptions
SQE Exam day disruptions: What to expect if your exam is delayed or cancelled, including resits, refunds, and attempt rules.
Since the SQE was first introduced, you may have experienced SQE exam day disruptions. You are not alone. We previously outlined SQE Issues.
Recently the SRA released guidelines of what you can expect if your assessment is disrupted. The SRA refers to this as an Assessment Delivery Disruption (ADD).
Kaplan SQE can declare an ADD in the event you experience:
- Technical failures
- Infrastructure failures
- Weather events
Kaplan SQE has up to 90 minutes to try and resolve the issue. Therefore, be prepared to potentially add an additional 90 minutes of time to your testing window.
In the event the issue cannot be resolved in 90 minutes the assessment will likely be cancelled. You will likely be given a rescheduled date within 2-3 days of the original date. Subject to test location availability. Hence, plan your schedule accordingly.
Your available options depend on if you started your assessment and which assessment you are sitting (SQE 1; FLK 1/FLK 2 or SQE 2).
Read the official notice from the SRA titled What happens if your assessment is disrupted.
This is a step in the right direction that helps with operational clarity. This approach:
- Reduces uncertainty when things go wrong operationally
- Give candidates clear information around, refunds, resits, and discounted attempts
- Signals the SRA recognizes exam day chaos is stressful and needs a formal, predictable response.
If you’ve taken the SQE or are studying for the SQE, what are your thoughts?
